DAZN expects profits - even without the Bundesliga

Cologne - Streaming service DAZN expects profits - even without the Bundesliga. Thus, according to the company's own statements, the streaming service is to achieve profitability by 2024.

Originally, DAZN had planned to achieve this goal by 2023. According to DAZN CEO Thomas de Buhr, the streaming service is still standing by this goal, which is only a matter of months away.

In mid-December, Sky Germany confirmed that it had secured the exclusive Bundesliga rights for the 2025/26 to 2028/29 seasons. For DAZN, this decision meant losing the majority of its Bundesliga games from the 2025/26 season onwards.

According to de Buhr, around 60 percent of the revenues from the Bundesliga come from TV advertising. The second pillar is the monthly income from subscriptions. "We are not dependent on rights to achieve profitability," de Buhr is quoted as saying by DWDL.de.

DAZN is to rely on "a significant increase in advertising revenues" to generate profits. According to de Buhr, DAZN will "above all" increase the number of live sports events and films on offer.
