Davis Cup: Rafael Nadal Hints at Finals Appearance
Nadal's Return to Davis Cup Brings Excitement
Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, has hinted at a possible return to the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, Spain, from November 21-27.
Nadal, who last played in the Davis Cup in 2019, said he is "excited" about the possibility of representing Spain in the tournament.
"I'm always proud to represent my country, and the Davis Cup is a very special competition," Nadal said. "I'm not sure if I'll be able to play, but if I am, I'll be very excited to be part of the team."
Spain Aims to Retain Title
Spain is the defending champion of the Davis Cup, having defeated Canada in the 2022 final.
With Nadal in the team, Spain would be one of the favorites to win the tournament again.
However, Nadal's participation is not yet certain. The 36-year-old is currently recovering from a foot injury that forced him to miss the US Open.
Nadal's Fitness Concerns
Nadal has been struggling with a foot injury for several months.
The injury forced him to miss Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics.
Nadal returned to action at the US Open, but he was forced to retire from his second-round match against Frances Tiafoe due to the injury.
Spain's Davis Cup Squad
Spain's Davis Cup squad is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
In addition to Nadal, the team is likely to include Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz, the 19-year-old rising star, is currently ranked No. 4 in the world.
