Early Life and Education
Gwen Walz was born on June 15, 1966 in Rochester, Minnesota. She is the daughter of Donald and Mary Seifert. She graduated from Rochester John Marshall High School in 1984 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Winona State University in 1988.
Career
Gwen Walz began her career as a teacher in the Mankato Area Public Schools in 1988. She later worked as an assistant principal and principal in the district.
In 2009, she was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, where she served until 2018. During her time in the legislature, she was a member of the Education Finance Committee and the Education Policy Committee.
First Lady of Minnesota
Gwen Walz became the First Lady of Minnesota in 2019, when her husband, Tim Walz, was elected governor. She is the 39th First Lady of Minnesota.
As First Lady, Gwen Walz has focused on issues such as education, health care, and mental health. She is also a strong advocate for the arts and culture.
